What Has the Government Done for Me?

Have you ever asked yourself what good has the government done for you? Well, if you are lucky enough to live in Connecticut you can certainly find several great things your state government has done for you.

In the past few weeks Connecticut has passed the largest cut in income tax for you in the history of our state. Income tax rates have been substantially decreased for most income groups, only couples with an annual income above $300,000 are exempted from these reductions. So, a real lower- and middle-income tax cut for YOU!

Governor Ned Lamont and the Democratic leadership of our State Legislature have passed this decrease that will affect nearly 60% of all taxpayers.

A few other changes that your Connecticut government have also passed:

· Increase in the Earned Income Tax Credit for low-income workers from the current rate of 30.5% to 40%. This change makes Connecticut among the top five states in the nation with the largest Earned Income Tax Credit rates.

· An expansion of existing exemptions on certain pension and annuity earnings that benefit our senior citizens.

As Governor Lamont said when signing this House Bill 6941, “We targeted these tax cuts and credits specifically for middle-class and working-class taxpayers because we want to enact the broadest-based relief possible to those who need it. I am glad to sign a bill providing tax relief to our residents.”

Your participation in the democratic process made this possible. Good politics brings great rewards for its citizens.

The Putnam Democratic Town Committee encourages you to become involved in the democratic process.

We’d love to hear from you.
